Blurb: Karen learns quickly that being both a mother and a vampire is no easy task, especially since her children, fraternal twins Anna and Andy, are not typical kids. Anna, although seemingly human, has the unique ability to not only travel the Astral, but also manipulate objects and people between planes. Andy also appears to be a normal human boy, but appearances prove disastrously deceiving.
With the help of her blood donor and lover, Jason, Karen does her best to offer the twins a "normal" suburban life. Despite them, Anna and Andy come into their own, exploring their family's past . . . and the very different beings they are both slowly becoming. In the process, the author takes us on a wild ride that breaks beyond the boundaries of time and reality, sexual exploration, love and sacrifice . . . and back to the vampire commune.
Welcome to Author Offerings. I am so happy to have you here today and to find out what your author offerings are. What is your latest offering?
My latest offering is an erotic horror titled The Darkness and the Night III: Twins of Darkness. The third book in The Darkness and the Night trilogy, Twins of Darkness follows not only vampire Karen and her blood donor/lover Jason, but also Karen’s seemingly human offspring, fraternal twins Andy and Anna. The book has some romantic elements to it, but romance definitely takes a heavy second to the horror and erotica.
What is TheDarkness and the Night III: Twins of Darkness all about?
Twins of Darkness is about humanity, the darkness within, and the struggle between the good and evil that exists within us all. Karen has been through much to get where she is now, only to find that the numerous moral dilemmas and brushes with death and captivity she has faced were nothing compared to her new role as suburban vampire mommy.
While The Darkness and the Night series is really all about Karen, Twins of Darkness also follows the upbringing of her children: Andy—seemingly human—and Anna, who was born with an especially powerful Doppelganger (or psychic double) attached to her soul. The dichotomy of Anna’s childhood innocence and her nearly godlike Astral abilities set the stage for a mesh of charm and horror that I hope will leave readers contemplating long after they have finished the book.
Twins of Darkness is also about the human body and sexual exploration. The story is very sensual, with sex being a vehicle for not only the readers’ stimulation and enjoyment, but also as an expression of the sexual journey that comes with being human.
That sounds dark and erotic. How did you come up with the idea?
Karen’s character is based on a character I wrote with my twin sister, back in the Stone Age, when we were in our mid-teens. I originally rewrote the story as one novella and two short stories, with Andy and Anna coming a few years later.
At the time—and this is going to give away just how much of a geek I am—I was a huge comic book fan. I had a few favorites, but my very favorite character was a woman with infinite abilities. She was beautiful and sexy, a symbol of female strength and power, but she also had vulnerabilities that would lead to her tragic demise. I saw a few different incarnations of this character over the years, but in almost every version, the character became drunk with power and had to die in order to save those she loved the most—from herself. I had to ask myself: If I had a character possessing comparable abilities, what would I do differently? Might I do better justice to my own symbol of female strength? I think Anna does.
Is this your first author offering, or do you have other books the readers should know about?
The Darkness and the Night III: Twins of Darkness is the third book in The Darkness and the Night erotic horror trilogy. The first book, Blood and Coffee, marks the beginning of Karen’s dark odyssey, after Billy of the Xavier clan turns her to settle a family score. The encounter leaves her terrified and confused—and pregnant. A blood bond between her and Billy creates an unusual romance between the two, but after they fall prey to a nocturnal commune controlled by puppet-master John-Michael, some bonds prove best broken.
In The Darkness and the Night II: Cosmic Orgasm (you’ll get the campy name after you read the book), Karen’s dark odyssey continues as vampire hunters and nocturnal bounty hunters from her recent past track her down. In a strange turn of events, lover becomes captor, foe becomes ally, love begins anew, and Karen survives her biggest challenge yet: childbirth.
Beyond The Darkness and the Night series, I have a few other published works. My kinky sci-fi space trek, Lust in Space, has received rave reviews, as has my erotic short, “Coffee Break”, found in Lori Perkins’s very hot Ravenous Romance anthology, Men in Shorts.I have a sexy short vampire romance in Ms. Perkins’s Sex and Taxes anthology, “Blood and Money”, and a bonus short I wrote with my husband, titled “Time Well Spent”. I also have a heartfelt—and slightly kinky—short story in Ms. Perkins’s Sex and Shoes anthology, titled “My Two Size 10’s”.
What can we expect from you in the future, Lisa?
Expect more vampires, aliens, and dark, paranormal weirdness. Expect to see boundaries pushed even further, the bar pushed higher, and writing even further outside the box. Expect to see more literary works, and even more smart, mixed-genre fiction, and of course, expect to see more erotica and romance. I don’t want to spoil the surprises, but I will say that you have not seen anything yet.
Thank you for joining me. Is there anything else you'd like the readers to know?
There are free excerpts available of all of my books, for those who like to read a little first before they buy. Also, I have a free short erotic horror available, “One Night Stand,” for those who would like a small sample of my vampire world.
